Hot on the heels of our Yogathon success, we held a Maggie’s yoga mini-marathon!

‘Maggie’s Manchester’ is based at the Christie Hospital. It’s a centre to support those with cancer, at any stage of their journey. Maggie’s offers practical support – such as financial advice – as well emotional support. This could range from talking support groups and helping to manage emotions, or how to have difficult conversations with loved ones.

Our yoga classes are just one of the many services offered by Maggie’s, and we are proud to run these sessions for free, as part of our community class provision.

These sessions are for anyone affected by cancer – patients, family, extended family or friends of the patient. Our weekly class on Wednesdays is now so popular, that we have extended our offering to two classes a week.

On the 15th May we were delighted to do something a little different, to raise much-needed funds.

All the Maggie’s yogis were invited to come over to the studio, extending the usual Wednesday class for two hours of yoga practice, followed by a beautiful Yoga Nidra from Janet Tatlock.

Post-yoga drinks were held at the new cafe below the studio – for off the mat refreshment, and to raise a toast to the £740 (plus gift aid) that we were thrilled to raise!

11 of our Maggie’s yogis joined in, travelling from around the Manchester area, and even from as far away as Hebden Bridge! Yoga is – at it’s core – an individual practice and exploration of the self, but the support and community that is created is a lovely testament to the importance of these classes, and the type of support the Maggie’s can offer.
